BC People First is excited to announce that we will be partnering with Community Living British Columbia to hold a Conference in March of 2018 in Abbotsford, BC.
This will combine the BCPF Conference (which happens every two years) with the annual CLBC South Fraser Regional Conference, and BCPF All General Meeting. The South Fraser Region includes individuals living in individuals living in: Surrey, Delta, Langley, Abbotsford, Hope, Mission and Chilliwack. The Conference will also be open to all members of BC People First from across the Province.
The theme of this Conference is: I BE PROUD, YOU BE PROUD.
This is a continuation of the conversation about Disability Pride, and BC’s very first Disability Pride Parade, which occurred in June 2017 at the Inclusion BC Conference.
Self Advocates will gather to celebrate being PROUD and whatever that means to them. Are you interested in presenting your skills and expertise to other Self Advocates? Send us your ideas!
We are looking for 5-15 minute presentations connected to our theme:
I BE PROUD, YOU BE PROUD. What is pride? How do you feel? What do you do that makes you proud? For example: happiness, encouragement, boost self-esteem, accomplishments, having a job, control and independence, being accepted for who you are etc.
The more creative and interactive, the better! Consider using art, music, drama, poetry, or photography as part of your presentation. Presentations need to be suitable for a large audience of self-advocates and supporters (around 80-150!). You may submit a proposal to present on your own or with a group of people.
Deadline for submission is January 26th 2018. Please email: firstname.lastname@example.org to submit your proposal or submit in person at CLBC office marked “Attention Self Advocate Planning Committee c/o BCPF Coordinator”. We will let you know if you are successful by February 10, 2018.
